A Guide to Biking in Cheltenham
Cheltenham is a town perhaps better known for racing horses, rather than bikes, as the home of the four day Cheltenham Festival, the biggest jump event in the horse racing calendar, which culminates in the world-famous Gold Cup.
It also has a history as a spa resort town and attractions such as the Wilson Museum and the ornate Everyman Theatre, but there’s plenty for bike enthusiasts to enjoy too.
Located right on the edge of the Cotswolds, one of our favourite rides is the Cotswold loop, which takes you from Cheltenham to Charlbury, via Cirencester and back to Cheltenham via Broadway.
The route is over 80 miles long and takes around two and a half hours to complete, with some great scenery and lots of corners to tackle.
For a longer route, you could make the trip from Burford, on the east of the Cotswolds, all the way over to Milford Haven on the west coast of Wales.
The trip takes in not just the Cotswolds, but also the Brecon Beacons National Park, heading through Gloucester, Merthyr Tydfil, Carmarthen and Haverfordwest along the way.
It’s a long journey, at about 190 miles and over four and a half hours, but it’s a fairly simple ride too.
