As one of the most renowned and recognised motorbike brands in the world with an unreputable reputation, Triumph has gone from strength to strength. The British brand was founded in 1885 and have regularly produced motorcycles since way back in 1902. Ever since then, they have only grown, with people all over the world knowing their brand, and riding their bikes.
The team at WeWantYourMotorbike are huge fans of the Triumph brand and appreciate every aspect of their product. We also believe that to truly appreciate their beauty, a little bit of history helps. See below for more information on why they have stood the test of time. The company battled on through hard times and kept producing the much-loved machines. Their determination and hard work paid off to see a shining brand standing today.
A History of Triumph Motorbikes
In 1915, the ‘Trusty Triumph’, or more commonly known as the Triumph model H, was produced to support the Allied troops in the First World War. The bikes purpose was to originally ease communication with front line troops. By the end of the war, 30,000 Model H bikes had been produced. It then made a household name, with ‘Trusty Triumph’ leading its popularity. The bike was reliable and so ‘trusty’ within the wartime restrictions and conditions.
Even after the discontinuation of the Model H in the early 1920s, Triumph was making its way to a leading British Motorcycle maker in that decade. As a company, their manufacturing plant covered 500,000 square feet where thousands of bikes were annually made.
They released successively refined roadster bikes until 1937when the 500cc Speed Twin was launched. This soon became the quintessential British bike and remained as the basis for follow-up Triumph twin models.
By the 1950s. Triumph’s Thunderbird line and the TR6 Trophy (infamously ridden by Steve McQueen in The Great Escape), made a major British export and became loved worldwide. The brand then got further exposure and a promotional boost in the US, when Marlon Brando appeared riding a 1950 Thunderbird 6T in the 1853 hit film, The Wild One.
Today, many Triumph lovers will consider the 1969 Bonneville as the best Triumph motorcycle ever put to market.
However the brand has grown and shaped over the years, tits stature today certainly holds an impressive history. It continues to make waves in the industry and has left a mark on culture, film and much more. You now only have to speak the words ‘ Bonneville’, ‘Spirit’, ‘Tiger’, or ‘Dayton’ to spark nostalgia in a motorbike enthusiast.
Adopted by the military, police forces at home and overseas and civilian riders alike, these motorbikes are, both in terms of performance and emotional appeal, quite literally a Triumph.
With all this in mind, it’s no surprise that the team at WeWantYourMotorbike would be happy to take your Triumph off your hands.

We have had numerous people sell their Triumph bikes with us before. We might know we are great and your Triumph will be in great hands but don’t take our word for it! James sold a Triumph speed Triple 1050 with us and said:
“At first I really struggled to sell my bike privately. I filled in a quick form online and they called me the next day (just once which was good as I hate being bombarded with calls). Mark was really clear and open on the phone. I then called back the next day and accepted the offer, which was way better than I was expecting. There was no hidden charges at any point. On collection (Charlie I think his name was) was early friendly and polite which made me feel a lot more at ease. The money was in my account before the bike was loaded into the van. I’d definitely use this service again. So simple and stress free.”
