Review of Harley-Davidson Road King Classic

28th October 2016

The Harley-Davidson tourers are some of the most comfortable bikes to ride and the Harley-Davidson Road King Classic is no different. It is a beautiful vintage looking bike and with spoked wheels, the whitewalls, and leather bound saddlebag inserts it truly deserves the name ‘classic’. It is a bike for the new generation that has kept the age-old Harley-Davidson traditions intact. Starting at a price of £19,195, the Road King Classic is undoubtedly one of the most expensive bikes in the tourer segment. The bike feels amazing and even with the current changes promises to provide a classic Harley-Davidson experience. It is currently available in vivid black, two-tone colours and other colour options depending on the manufacturers.

Specifications of the motorbike

In the latest model the Harley-Davidson Road King Classic, the power is delivered by a four stroke, twin cylinder internal combustion Milwaukee-eight engine. It is air cooled with a displacement of 1,745 cc and has four valves per cylinder. The gear provides six speed transmissions. Over the years the Harley-Davidson manufacturers have made very little changes in their built style and it is the road king is no different. The frame of the bike is made of mild steel and the rectangular section backbone is fitted with twin down-tubes. A low seat height of 715 mm, which is a characteristic of cruiser bikes, offers a comfortable ride for both the rider and the passenger.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 22.7 l and has the fuel gauge and the traditional speedometer built on it. The front and rear wheels are chrome steel laced with custom whitewall tyres. It is fitted with the classic headlight found on almost all Harley-Davidson and the windshield is easily adjustable. The engine, the protection bars, the main cover and the horn is entirely made of chrome and gives a royal look to the bike. The floor boards are cushioned and has a spring-like action. The carriers are big, spacious and easily detachable. The rear of the bike consists of twin exhausts and a single disc brake. The front suspensions are telescopic while the rear ones are air-adjustable. The front and rear tyre have the same specs at 130/90-16.

Performance and riding expectations

The hefty 376 kg classic is a beautiful machine and once in full throttle the Harley-Davidson Road King Classic makes the rider feel like there’s nothing underneath him but air. The all new V-twin engine, oil cooling system and a balancer shaft adds to the smooth performance. The bike is meant for long drives and tours. The maximum power being at 67 hp and the maximum torque at 150 Nm, cruising becomes a fun and pleasant experience. The tourer provides a healthy mileage of 5.2l for 100 km and can easily cover over 200 miles. The bike is rock steady during bends at high speed and even in low speeds it feels balanced and confident. Overall, the Harley-Davidson Road King Classic is a no-frills, no-nonsense piece of machine that is worth every penny.
