Review of the Ducati Scrambler Icon

13th July 2016

The Ducati Scrambler Icon is a not just a motorbike. It is a class. It is an archetype. And it never ceases to amaze us. It is a class apart and in fact, Ducati went to the extent to call it a ‘sub brand’!

Versatile and efficient, the Ducati Scrambler Icon is simply a joy to ride. If you are that typical adventurer and biker who spends more than half your life on bikes, look no further! Equipped with its own USB charger so you can charge your gadgets on the go, this is definitely one beast that has been designed to keep you riding. Let us be honest with this one: Is the Scrambler a bike for hipsters? It definitely is. Has Ducati created a mini- revolution in the world of biking? It definitely has.

Let us take a look at some aspects of the bike.

1. The engine: Definitely one of the single most important decisive factors for someone who is crazy about bikes. The beast runs on an 800s machine that can take up to a mid-range performance. It does give good performance if pushed further, but it starts to vibrate when revved to that level. Ideally, the motor works best and is most smooth when worked between 4000rpm and 6000rpm. Above 6000, you can feel mild tremors that increase with increased revving. The engine is air-cooled, so you won’t have to feel the heat. The L-Twin machine gives you six speed transmissions.

2. The performance: With good engine comes good performance. The Ducati Scrambler Icon is a bike meant for easy to medium ranged power riding. Besides that, it has a smooth engine that is not suitable for rough and rocky terrains. Basically, use it for soft-riding and you’ll be more than happy. Use it for rough surfaces, and you’ll be a bit disappointed. It has a stiff suspension which means you are going to feel every bump that comes your way. It has an excellent ability to make quick turns around corners and smooth U-turns – just perfect for busy city roads.

3.The looks: Now who would not want to own a bike that can make necks turn? The Scrambler has a simplistic yet commanding appearance. It has minimum design elements and has a rather retro feel to it. Yet, this definitely does not mean the bike looks plain! A closer look at the bike will show you how ingeniously Ducati has incorporated modern design into an otherwise classical appearance.

In conclusion, the Ducati Scrambler Icon is a fun bike. It is not heavy to handle and can be easily managed by any kind of rider. Though not suitable for rough mountain riding, it is definitely a joy of a bike to ride on for country-side trips or highway journeys. Its easy to manage nature also makes it suitable for in-city daily riding too. If you are looking for a bike to just go on a simple ride on weekends or holiday evenings, this is definitely the bike you should pick.
