Royal Enfield Continental GT Review

12th October 2018

After Siddhartha Lal became the CEO of Royal Enfield, the Indian motorbike manufacturer has gone through revolutionary transformation. The company continues to grow in popularity, by improving the quality of their motorbikes, while integrating up-to-date technology at the same time.

After launching the Interceptor 650, Royal Enfield brought out another machine, the Continental GT. It is a classic café racer, drawing inspiration from the 1965 British Continental GT 250. What does the Royal Enfield Continental GT have in store for motorbike enthusiasts?

Specifications

When you set your eyes of the Royal Enfield Continental GT, you cannot shake off the nostalgia, thanks to its classic look. It counts with a round-shaped headlight, spoked wheels, and bare frame. On top of that, the handlebars are café racer clip-on variant, which adds to the classic look of the motorbike.

In the front suspension, you will get the regular fork, while the rear has twin coil-over shocks. The rear suspension has five levels of pre-load adjustment, which is a nice addition. The suspension on this motorbike is good, as it provides ample amounts of damping.

For the front brakes, the Indian manufacturer used floating disc with twin-piston ByBre callipers, and a single disc at the rear. Both the front and rear brakes have dual-channel ABS. Overall, the brakes provide satisfactory amounts of stopping power, giving you good control as you enter corners.

Harris Performance team were the ones who designed the tubular steel, twin cradle frame for the motorbike. As a result, the motorbike has good weight distribution, while offering great balance and accuracy at the same time. Thanks to its ample amounts of ground clearance, you will feel confident taking the motorbike around on the streets of your city. When it comes to handling, you will find it effortless to manoeuvre the motorbike.

As the seat is only 790 mm high, it is relatively easy to get on the motorbike. The riding position is optimal, as you can take a sports-like stance on this motorbike, which is comfortable. If you do feel like pushing the motorbike, you can follow a race-like position. The seat is quite comfortable, allowing you to enjoy the ride as you go outside towards the countryside.

Performance

Royal Enfield Continental GT comes with air-oil cooled, parallel twin, single overhead cam, four-stroke, 648 cc engine. It produces 47 hp of power at 7,250 rpm and 38.35 ft-lb of torque at 5,250 rpm. The engine provides a majority of the torque (80%) by the time you touch 2,500 rpm. Royal Enfield have put a lot of work into the engine, as the mechanical vibration doesn’t hinder the ride quality. With the 12.5-litre tank and fuel efficiency of 70 mpg, you should be able to cover at least 150 miles in one shot.

Verdict

The Royal Enfield Continental GT is a great motorbike for a base price of £4,535. It provides great value for money, thanks to its good performance, handling, and styling. The riding position along with the frame and the suspension makes the journey feel wonderful! See the beauty right here https://www.royalenfield.com/uk/motorcycles/continental-gt
