Popular Aberdeen Biking Routes
If you have ever driven through Scotland, you will be familiar with some of the amazing roads and routes they have. With a fantastic combination of constant straight, windy surprises and breathtaking views, your ride here can be out of this world. Here is our favourite motorcycle ride in Aberdeen:
A944: Aberdeen – Westhill – Alford – Lumsden
This route begins in Alford. Once you hit Alford, take a right and go over the bridge to Strathdon which will take you alongside the Don River via a lush green forested section and sweeping greenery. 8 miles later you will spot a turn to Strathdon – AVOID THIS! Instead, head straight to Lumsden.
Once you cross Lumsden, you will be greeted by some amazing twists and turns, alongside a bridge, where you should turn left to get onto a single paved track. This single track will lead you onto a farm (where you may need to slow down a bit!), after which, the track will form a t-junction. Turn left at the 1941, to where you will be presented with out-of-this-world views. Try to keep your eyes on the road! You can enjoy these stunning surroundings for 12 miles. With bundles of heather, flurries of streams and an abundance of forestry, all surrounded by mountain tops, you will suddenly see why this is our favourite all-time route.
Aberdeen Motorcycle Clubs
There are various clubs in and around the Aberdeen area which are a great way to mingle, share knowledge, gain new insights and make friends if you are new to the area. Here are just a few of our favourite clubs in Aberdeen. Be sure to research further to discover more!
The Grampian Motorcycle Club (GMC)
The Grampian MCC WAS Established in 2006 by former members of the Aberdeen and District Advanced MCC. The GMC is now affiliated with The British Motorcycle Federation and mainly served as a social MCC. The club is open to any type of motorcyclist and is perfect for anyone who wants to grab every opportunity to ride his/her bike, as often as possible.
The club conducts regularly runs which vary in distance, but are usually between 50-80 miles. You can expect the runs to generally run through the British summer months and often on a Wednesday, of course, ending with a post-run social gathering. On weekends the runs stretch a little further with trips between 150 and 400 miles, however, these long runs are limited to 14 every year and include overnight stays.
If you like the sound of this social club, the only requirement is that members possess a proper motorcycle riding license. Members are also welcome to bring families and partners along to weekend runs!
The Bon-Accord Motorcycle Club
The Bon-Accord is exclusively dedicated to motocross sports and has a positive reputation for being open, welcoming and friendly to new members joining without limit. They have been known to hear out every single member and their ideas and opinions. They conduct meetings on the first Wednesday of every month at Aberdeen Grammar School and Former Pupils Club from 7:30 pm – 10 pm. They even allow non-members to come along to the meetings to get a sense of the club before joining.
The club also conducts various motocross events which are open to everybody! They encourage visitors to come along to learn more about the sport and even offer a crash course taught by senior members. If you want to join, it’s super easy – all you have to do it visit their site here, download their membership form and mail it to them. Membership lasts 12 months and varies in cost depending on what type of membership you are looking for.
Blue Angels Motorcycle Club
Perhaps one of the more well-known MCCs in Scotland is the Blue Angels Motorcycle MCC. They are a one-percenter club and claim to be the oldest in Europe, founded in 1963. They are the only 1% in Scotland.
The Blue Angels have 6 chapters through Scotland Glasgow, West Coast, South East, Aberdeen, Fide and Edinburgh; and in Leeds, Kirklees, South Lakes and York, England. They have 7 in Belgium and 2 in Spain!
This club regularly attends large events, festivals, shows and more. Be sure to check them out over social media and get in touch to find out more about their meetups etc.
Another great local MCC is The Road Mutts. These guys are a classic MCC with classic values. They have regular ride-outs and also take part in fundraising and charity events. Check out there Facebook here for more information.
