Exciting Biking Routes

Take your old bike for one last spin on these brilliant routes.

1. B1022/B1062: Colchester – MaldonThe B1022 is an excellent route that offers enough scenery and a fair share of bends. However, there are some side road junctions to watch out for along with double white line and limited speed sections.
The B1062 runs parallel to the B1022 and offers a lot more scenery. You can also find a few more bends and lesser police presence.
On the whole, the route gets an above average for corners, while scenery is good 3.3 out of 5. Visibility and road surface are decent at best.

2. Harwich – Colchester – Sudbury

This route offers fair bit of corners and straights. However, it is best suited for a casual ride with plenty of stops. For starters, you have Mistley, where you can get yourself a drink or even some tasty ice cream. Then, you will be crossing Abberton Reservoir, where you can stop for some bird-watching.
However, do watch out for gravel and mud.
On the whole, the scenery is pleasant and there are a fair bit of corners to keep you interested. Visibility and Road Surface are slightly above average.

3. B1508: Colchester – Sudbury

This is probably the favourite route for most Colchester bikers. It’s pretty much a roller-coaster as there are a ton of corners and bends. But, before you reach the corners and bends, you will also be covering some extensive straights.
But, do keep an eye out for villages with 30 mph speed limits, including Bures. The locals here warn about gravel that gets washed down during the rains.
Overall, a great route with fantastic corners.

Meeting Spots for Bikers

Apart from great roads, Colchester also offers a few hangout spots that are ideal for bikers. Here are a few that you can try.

1. Bungalow Café

The Bungalow Café is located at Stanway, Colchester on London Road. As one customer puts it, the place is great for pudding and “non-fried” food. Other than that, it has an ambience that is biker friendly with oodles of parking space. The prices are apparently quite affordable as well. You can refuel at a garage that’s right next to the café.

2. Danny’s Food Bar

Danny’s Food Bar can be found at Haven Road & King Edward Quay, Colchester. The place is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon. It is basically a food van that serves biker fare which includes exotic stuff like kangaroo burgers, spicy burgers and Parmo’s. So, you could say that this isn’t your everyday food van.
The van can also be hired for parties or events and that most definitely includes biker rallies as well.
Motorcycle Clubs (MCCs)

There are a few good MCCs in and around Colchester that you might want to take a look at.

1. Castle Colchester Motorcycle Club

The Castle Colchester Motorcycle Club (CCMC) was established in 1936, which makes it one of the oldest clubs in the Colchester/Essex area. The best part is that it still stands strong and members keep coming in. however, this isn’t your usual social bike club.
The CCMC is dedicated to motorcycle sport participation and a good number of its members are actual competitors at various levels of the Trial, Enduro, Motocross, and SidecarCross events.
The club is affiliated to the A.C.U (Auto Cycle Union) and encourages members to take part in motorcycle sport competitions.
Interested individuals can get membership information by sending a mail to enquiry@castle-mcc.co.uk.

2. Colchester Classic MCC

As the name suggests, the Colchester MCC is dedicated to classic motorcycle enthusiasts in the Colchester area. Not surprisingly, there are plenty of those kinds in Colchester and this club is where you can find most of them. The club is open to enthusiasts of any make or model as long as it’s a classic.
The club conducts bi-weekly meetings and takes part in rallies, events, and ride-outs.
