Motorbiking routes in and around Exeter
There are plenty of motorcycling routes in the area. The Devon coast is only 10 miles away from Exeter. Here are some popular motorbiking routes in and around Exeter.
Crewkerne-Taunton-Lynton-Exeter-Bridport: This route covers 187 miles. If you take this route, you are going to be on the road for a large part of your day. But there are many rest stops and pubs on the way and they take the sting out a bit. This is a good loop and you can take in a variety of views- coastal, urban, rural and main as. If you go early in spring, you won’t find much traffic on this route. The coastal sections can be busy during summer. Exeter sections are usually crowded during the weekend.
Exeter-Barnstaple-Tavistock-Paignton: This route covers 155 miles. For the larger part, it is mostly rural. The road is a mix of twists and straights. The Totnes to Torbay route is quite pleasant. On some portions, the route strings around Exmoor National Park. On these stretches, you will get some fantastic views. Some parts of the road are rough. Watch out for the occasional rock and ridge jutting out. On a good spring day, there is nothing really to worry about. On the whole, this is a decent road to ride.
Motorbiking watering holes in Exeter
Exeter Bike Night: Bridge Motorcycles on Alphinbrook Road holds a bike night on the last Thursday, of each month. Every bike that comes in gets a raffle ticket. The atmosphere can get quite lively. Come a bit early to catch the best seats.
The Royal Oak: The Royal Oak Pub is in Nadderwater, Exeter. This is a quaint old pub, serving homemade food. Try to make the Sunday Roast, from 12pm to 3pm. Prices are reasonable and the staff is very kind too. They also serve desserts.
Woodleigh Coach House: This place is at Cheriton Bishop, Exeter. It serves breakfast, lunch and high tea. The building where the hotel is located is actually a grade 2 building. There is accommodation also. So if you are an out of towner, consider staying here. There are lots of places to visit nearby.
The Fat Pig: This simple pub is on St. John Street, Exeter. They use local produce in their food. The pub also has its own brew house. They actually raise their own pigs so the meat is always fresh. The prices are reasonable and the pub welcomes bikers.
The Thatched House: This place is actually built in a thatched house style. They serve classic pub food along with real ales. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly and hospitable. Note that this is a dog friendly pub. So if you riding with your pooch, you can drop in at this place.
Where to stay in Exeter?
St. Andrews Hotel in Exeter: St Andrew’s Hotel welcomes bikers. There’s a range of accommodation to choose from- single, double, twin and even family rooms. The food is excellent. For breakfast, there are a range of items to choose from- continental to traditional English breakfasts. The places is within easy reach of Exminster, Dartmoor National Park, Exmouth, Paignton and Teignmouth.
Rockvale: Rockvale is in the small village of Lynton, on the North Devon coast. Lynton and the nearby village of Lynmouth are together called ‘Little Switzerland’. Rockvale hotel is close to Exmoor National Park, the park and the hotel separated by a stunning countryside. If you are visiting North Devon from Exeter, this is the perfect place to stay. There are eight rooms in the hotel; you can choose from single, double and twin bedrooms. We especially recommend the breakfast here.
