Swindon has long had an affinity with motorbikes, as the home to the successful Swindon Robins speedway team, who have competed at the Abbey Stadium in Blunsdon since 1949, although a speedway track in the Gorse Hill area existed as far back as the 1920s.
The Robins won the SGB Premiership, the sport’s top league in the UK, in 2017, and are also one of the country’s oldest teams.
A new stadium is also due to be built in the near future, and there’s also a track at the village of Foxhill, a few miles out of town, which has hosted multiple Grand Prix events, so speedway seems to have a promising future in the area for many years to come!

The A240 from Swindon to Oxford allows you to open up the throttle a little bit, with lots of straights and not many corners, although you might run into traffic and you also be very wary of the speed cameras too.
