We’ve passed the solstice and winter is well on its way out. Not many of us care a great deal for the colder months but they’re a particular chore for bikers. Whether it’s ice on the roads or rain falling from the sky, weather can easily prevent us from donning the leathers and hitting the road.

The great news is that spring is finally rearing its head once again. The worst of the weather is behind us and we can look forward to many months of putting our two wheels on the tarmac and getting out there for a ride.

Preparing

Unless you’re a hardcore biker, it’s probably been several months since you’ve ridden. This means you’ll probably need to do a little bit of work before you can get back out there. First of all, you’ll want to dust of the leathers. Any biker knows the importance of protective gear so it can pay to treat your leather before the season begins.

This is also a great time to carry out some maintenance on your bike. Whether you’re doing basic restoration work on the engine or looking to doll the entire bike up in preparation for a sale, it’s wise to get started as soon as possible to ensure that you’ll be ready the moment the sunshine returns.

A New Bike

With a new riding season on the way, it’s the perfect time to treat yourself to something new. It’s easy enough to sell your old bike quickly with websites like We Want Your Motorbike allowing you to shop around the forecourts for something special.

Particularly if you’re planning a long road trip this spring or summer, it’s a good idea to start looking at your options early on. If your old bike doesn’t have what it takes to provide the ultimate road trip, seize the opportunity to move on before the season begins.

Those who are particularly safety conscious may also consider picking up some new leathers and a fresh helmet. At the very least, it’s wise to check your current equipment on a regular basis.

Plan Some Routes.

Even in the summer months the UK weather can be fickle. Any biker will know the feeling – when you wake up with a day off, the sun is shining and the roads are dry, the last thing you want to do is sit around planning.

When a nice day comes around, all you want to do is get out there on your new bike.

The trick is to plan some great rides in advance. Pull out some local maps and consider which might be the most enjoyable driving roads. This way, when the sun does come out, you’ll be fully prepared to take advantage of the weather with absolutely no delay whatsoever.
